Guiding, Not Solving
When your child is stuck, the most helpful thing is often a good question rather than the answer.
Questions that help
- What is the question asking you to find?
- What do you already know?
- Can you draw it, or try a smaller example?
- How could you check your answer?
When they're really stuck
Give the smallest hint that gets them moving again, then step back. If they still can't continue, leave the question and come back to it later from the Mistake Bank.
Let mistakes happen
Mistakes show exactly what to practise next. Reviewing them calmly teaches more than getting every answer right the first time.
