Reading passage
When a worker honeybee finds a good patch of flowers, she does not keep it to herself. She flies back to the hive and performs a “waggle dance” on the honeycomb. She walks in a straight line while shaking her body, circles back, and repeats the movement many times.
The dance works like a map. The direction of the straight line shows which way to fly compared with the sun, and the length of the waggle tells the other bees how far away the flowers are.
Because the other bees can follow these directions, the whole hive saves time and energy. Instead of searching at random, they head straight for the food.
